Huron Alumni

How many 1983 Alumni still have their Ian Mair (is that the right name?) cartoon of all the Huron Social Science and History Profs! It was a hilarious depiction of what we loved most about our professors...a runner, cowboy boots, big hair and big smiles! It was their personal dedication to the study of Social Science and History that propelled each of us to be curious about the world we were entering as adults. We bonded as a class and each of us has gone on to achieve wonderous things. It was good to be at Huron in the 1980's!

After Huron, Ian Mair and I went across the road to law school and it was during those years that I had his caricature framed. To this day, it hangs in my office and is quite a conversation piece with clients. I have fond memories of the class and of the fab five depicted so adroitly by Ian.

I believe I still have mine, although it's buried somewhere in my boxes. I remember looking at it just before I moved to Thunder Bay in 1995. Now to read that there's a new 'Dr. Read' is something those of us who knew him as a youngster never imagined. I still use many of the skills I learnt while studying history, on a daily basis. And, I also still love discussions and debates...
