Huron Alumni

Profile: Rick Lucas

A family affair of giving.

Rick Lucas serves Huron in many ways, as both a member of the Executive Board and the Foundation. In fact, for Rick Huron is a family affair: his children Deborah and Jonathan have been Huron students as well, and his late father Gordon supported the College.

In 2005, Rick established The Carol Micak Lucas Bursary in memory of his late wife and as a reflection of the financial support Carol herself needed as a Western sociology student. Rick wanted to help make a difference in a female student's life.

"A bursary is a great opportunity to attract bright students to attend Huron who wouldn't be able to come otherwise," Rick says. The bursary, based on financial need, was created to support students in the Management and Organizational Studies program and History because those disciplines are similar to sociology, and Rick himself majored in History.

The Margaret Lucas Bursary was also established by Rick's late father Gordon in memory of his late wife Margaret and in thanks and appreciation for the role which Huron has played in the lives of Rick, Deborah and Jonathan.
