Profile: Stuart and Jane Smith

"It's a source of great satisfaction to us."

Helping Huron theology students as they pursue their studies reflects two important commitments of Stuart and Jane Smith in their lives - the Anglican Church and to Huron University College.

"We are lifetime Anglicans and heavily involved with the Anglican Church," says Stuart. "We saw this as the logical step to help theology students."

As a result, the Smiths established The Jane and Stuart Smith Bursary in 2007 for theology students, and based on financial need.

Stuart says he and Jane have seen first-hand the quality of Huron theology students, although they've also seen many students struggle financially while pursuing their studies. Establishing the bursary, says Stuart, may provide not only peace of mind and ease financial strain but perhaps also encourage others to study theology.

"We have seen quite a wonderful selection of young people who have gone into the Anglican ministry and they have been outstanding," says Stuart. "Establishing the bursary makes us feel good we're helping."

Helping Huron and its students is something Stuart has done in fact for many years. A long-time friend of the College and a former President of the Huron University College Foundation, Stuart says knowing he and his wife are helping current and future theology students is a blessing.

"It's a source of great satisfaction to us."
