Huron Alumni

Profile: Dan Moulton

"I could not have made a better decision."

Dan Moulton did not even know Huron existed until a high school teacher highly recommended it.

"A high school teacher of mine in Woodstock was a Huron alumna," he says. "She took me on a tour of the school and told me all about the programs and the community. I was excited about what I was hearing and decided to apply."

Dan enjoys the small class sizes Huron offers. "I have been able to fully participate in all of my classes and have personal interaction with each of my professors, which has had a truly positive impact on my studies at Huron. I could not have made a better decision by attending university here."

In 2006, Dan was awarded the prestigious National Millennium Excellence Award. The Canadian Millennium Scholarship Foundation recognizes students for their community involvement, innovation, leadership and academic merit.

While Dan feels graduation is still far away, he has already begun planning his future. "My current plans are to finish my Honours Specialization degree in Political Science and then go on to law school."

Outside the classroom, Dan has been involved in the Huron community in other ways including serving as a Don on Second South in O'Neil-Ridley Residence. "I really enjoyed it," he says. "I love continuing to be a part of the residence community and assisting first-year students in having as great of a first-year experience as I had." Dan is currently Vice-President University Affairs for the University Students' Council at The University of Western Ontario, and will be returning to Huron to complete his fourth year of studies in 2010-11.

Dan believes Huron's sense of community is special. "Students know they belong at Huron and that they are more than just a number, they are a member of the Huron community," he says. "Everyone at Huron strives to maintain the feeling of inclusiveness and as a result, we all feel right at home and part of a supportive community."
